In the current beauty scene, eyebrows are crucial in defining your appearance. In today's world it's about the fullness and close distance of eyebrows when it used to be all about that arch with a thinner brow to get that arch. Whatever the trend getting eyebrows to fit your face is most important!
Eyebrows come in different textures; some have coarse, curly hairs while others have fine hairs, and some go in all different directions. Keep this in mind when looking at your face. The right professional can help you determine your hair texture, shape, and then what course of action to take for YOUR best brow.
I dislike the phrase "eyebrows frame your face" as they don't actually surround your face! A well-shaped brow frames your eyes and complements your face, enhances your expressions, and elevates your overall look. The saying "Eyebrows are sisters, not twins" highlights the importance of embracing natural differences while learning to make them look more alike. If you're curious about achieving your ideal brows, you're in the right place. This guide provides essential tips and tricks for mastering eyebrow styling, whether you prefer waxing, tinting, or shaping.
Understand Your Brow Shape with Face Shape
To create fantastic eyebrows, first, you need to recognize your unique brow shape. As a Pro Makeup Artist I know not every eyebrow is the same, and the shape of your face plays a significant role in determining what looks best. For example:
Oval Faces: Softly angled brows work best, maintaining a natural balance.
Round Faces: Higher arches can create the appearance of length, making the face look slimmer. This should never be done a the risk of going too thin.
Square Faces: Slightly rounded brows soften sharp jawlines, adding a touch of elegance.
Heart-Shaped Faces: A subtle arch can enhance features, drawing attention to the eyes.
Understanding your face shape can guide you in shaping your brows to achieve that ideal look. But it does not mean forcing your eyebrows to be something they are not but maybe getting them close...

Choosing a Brow Stylist or Products
Decide whether to visit a professional or to tackle your eyebrow grooming at home.
Professional Services: If you need advanced options like microblading or brow lamination, consulting a qualified professional is beneficial. For microblading this is a person with a tattoo license and for brow lamination, waxing or tinting see an esthetician. I encourage you to see one that has a makeup artist background because let's Face It, makeup artists shape eyebrows the best because they have the most experience shaping cheeks, lips, eyes and brows! Professionals have the experience to create shapes and shades tailored to your facial features and ensure you achieve the best results.
At-Home Products: There are a wide range of tools available, including brow waxes, pomades, and pencils besides my beloved Brown Ink. Investing in high-quality products that suit your brow outcome is essential. For instance, over 55% of people using brow pomade report longer-lasting results compared to using pencil alone. In fact I am not a pencil fan as it looks like a crayon because I can see the strokes. Face It Skin Brow Ink not only shades color on to the skin but coats hairs and holds them in place all day! You can schedule an appointment with me for a demonstration.
No matter your choice, having the right tools is vital for achieving your desired look.
Techniques for Shaping Eyebrows
Deciding on a professional or DIY approach leads you to the pivotal shaping techniques that can enhance your brows:
Waxing
Waxing is a popular and quick method for defining brows. Warm wax is applied to unwanted hairs, which are removed swiftly. Results typically last from 4 to 6 weeks, freeing you from frequent upkeep. I use a wax made in Switzerland because of it's nutritious ingredients and it never hurts the skin. In fact it's a beautiful alternative to dermaplaning for a full face wax as it removes hairs by the root and softens and exfoliates the skin. I follow this treatment with Luxe Serum and a mini massage. Such longevity makes waxing a favorite among many.
Tinting
If you have lighter brows and want to enhance their color, tinting can be an excellent choice. It adds depth, some dimension and makes brows stand out without needing daily filling. Professionals often use vegetable-based dyes, which can last about 4 to 6 weeks, so you won’t have to spend time on filling every morning.
Bleaching eyebrows is a technique emerging where lightening the eyebrows are a thing. Lady Gaga started the unusual trend during one of her performances. I am not a fan unless it's for theatrics such as her line of work but for an everyday look I'll pass.
Microblading
For a semi-permanent option, microblading is perfect for those wanting fuller brows. This technique uses tiny strokes using a blade to mimic hair, resulting in a natural appearance. It’s ideal for anyone with sparse brows or those wanting to define their shape better. Typically, microblading lasts between 1 to 3 years, making it a worthwhile investment for many.
Regular Maintenance
Regardless of your chosen method, keeping your brows groomed is crucial. Schedule regular wax appointments. A check-in every 4 to 6 weeks can ensure your brows always look their best.
Professional Looking Brows
A good rule of thumb is using your thumb! Below is my guide to the perfect eyebrows.
The distance between your eyebrows should be a thumb width apart. Stand in front of a mirror and place your thumb upside down between your brows. This is the space that should be cleaned up between your brows. If you have a bigger gap than anticipated fill in using my Brow Ink matching your hair color.
Your arch should never be directly above your pupil but on the far outside. If it's over the center of your eye you have just shortened your brow. Arches that are on the outside help the eyebrow look longer and more significant and can give you a lift!
The end of your brow should never be shortened but end gradually. Tapering off an eyebrow is key.
Taking the time to fill in your brows can tie your whole look together.

Avoiding Brow Mistakes
Even seasoned beauty enthusiasts can make common brow mistakes. Here are a few pitfalls to avoid:
Over-tweezing/Waxing: Less is more when it comes to shaping. Eyebrows should maintain some natural fullness. If you have ever had was applied to you that is hot run! This is an elementary mistake and should never happen. Burning the delicate skin in this area takes a very long time to heal. Wax should be a soothing warmth.
Going too dark: While your brows should complement your hair, matching them exactly can look harsh. Aim to match your low lights and nothing darker. Unless you really want bold dark brows I'll always find the perfect shade by looking at your hair color.
Neglecting Maintenance: Regular grooming is essential. Set reminders in your calendar for upkeep to keep your brows in shape.
Trying Trends That Don’t Suit You: Trends change rapidly, and not every style fits every face or generation. Focus on what enhances your unique beauty.
Empowering Your Eyebrow Journey
Achieving the perfect eyebrows is a journey that blends artistry with individuality. But, let's be honest, not everyone has a lot of eyebrows to work with and that's okay! Seeking a professional can give you techniques to enhance what you have! Remember, your brows don’t need to be identical just close; instead, they should enhance your personal unique look. By recognizing your face shape, choosing equipped techniques, and committing to regular maintenance, you can experience the transformative power of beautifully styled brows. Whether you enlist professional help or take on the challenge yourself, embrace the unique traits that make your brows truly yours. Happy brows is a happy lady!
