Radiant Skin From Your Kitchen

We all know that what we put into us shows on us. In this blog I want to share with you cleaner ways for radiant skin aging from your kitchen! Aging is something we cannot escape as we start aging at birth - natural cycle of life. Let's talk food for better aging. For example; if you don't drink enough water skin starts looking dry and itchy, your mouth feels tacky and you have low energy. But when you drink enough water it shows because skin feels and looks less dry, a bit more plump and you have energy. Or if you smoke skin color isn't as vibrant and looks lifeless and dull because of what your organs are processing (including your skin) inside and outside. When you eat mostly bagged foods like chips (my downfall), crackers and products heavily processed it causes our body to react and it shows in how we feel and how our skin looks. Not very vibrant.

When we are intaking a cleaner way of aging using foods from our very own kitchen everything that touches us starting at our lips (eating) we age very well. Below are some tips you can incorporate into your routine for cleaner aging. I believe in skin-minimalism for a skincare routine with intention of selfcare. Think of your eating the same way, then what you eat becomes your selfcare.

Drink filtered water. Since our bodies are around 60% water the water you drink is crucial

for freshness and purity. It removes harmful contaminants like chlorine, lead, and other chemicals from tap water, potentially improving your health by reducing exposure to these toxins, providing better taste, and encouraging increased hydration due to its improved quality. Drinking filtered water can help boost your immune system because it helps flush out toxins and other impurities from your body that may have been hindering your immune response. When making coffee and teas be sure you are using filtered water not just for better taste but for cleaner drinks. Not the best at drinking water opt for foods loaded with water like cucumber, bell peppers, zucchini and watermelon just to name a few.

Drink bone broth and sip it like tea! It is one of our most healing and restorative foods for

your gut, skin and wellbeing. Why you ask? It is anti-inflammatory, great for skin clarifying, gut healing with collagen building amino acids and minerals. It's high in protein, collagen, electrolytes, and amino acids, and can be consumed on its own or used as a base for soups and sauces. I think of it as a snack with a pomegranate or a couple small pieces of sourdough bread to savor on. I do buy the boxed pure bone chicken broth. Read the ingredients and look for only the meat, spices and herbs you can recognize when buying. I prefer Pacific Foods or Kettle & Fire bone broth. Did you know there is 8 grams of protein in most bone broth?

Buy and eat in-season. Oregon has so many wonderful winter foods like; asparagus,

cabbage, pomegranate, apples, walnuts, crab, brussel sprouts, sardines, salmon, carrots, beans, potatoes and more. We have so much to cook with. I know food prices have gone up but with the way our health care system is, it is cheaper than having health issues to eat these beautiful skin-fortifying foods.

Keep your dishes simple like I do. For example tonight I am making simple salmon (skin on) pan fried in EEVO and a splash of butter for crispness, skin side up with garlic, onion, paprika and some allspice. My side will be tahini grilled cauliflower (recipe below) and small red potato's either boiled or pan fried halved. Season to taste. This meal literally is under an hour. Make more than you or your family can eat and save for lunches. Cook and freeze is best with kids.

Avoid foods white in color. Except for cauliflower, potatoes and homemade popcorn (my favorite snack) avoid sugar, flour, cereal, crackers and white breads. You get the idea.

Roasted cauliflower for radiant skin. Cauliflower for glowing skin. Seasoned and grilled cauliflower.

Not sure about how to eat cauliflower? Here is a simple fast recipe: wash and break cauliflower head into florets. In a bowl mix 1/4 (or more to taste) cup tahini sauce with salt, pepper, paprika and allspice. I never measure these I taste the mix then add what I want. Toss together with cauliflower florets coating all, then place on a warmed cooking sheet with EEVO and bake at 425 for 20-25 minutes. I do mine until crispy brown. Serve as a side dish with any meat. This is a very tasty and filling dish loaded with many skin-health benefits. Cauliflower has: Calcium: 23.5 milligrams (mg)

Magnesium: 16 mg per cup, Phosphorus 47.1 mg per cup, Potassium: 320 mg per cup

and Sodium: 32.1 mg per cup. WOW!

diet to combat aging, but using harsh chemical cleaners in your home could counteract your efforts by exposing you to toxins that you breath in. Aim for non-toxic and biodegradable alternatives. Personally, I enjoy using baking soda and vinegar for tackling grease in sinks, vinegar for shining glass and mirrors, and I create an all-purpose cleaner by mixing 3 parts water, 1 part white vinegar, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, and a few drops of my favorite essential oil in a spray bottle.

beauty products is one of the best things to do for your skin next to what your eating. Your skin digests products much like the stomach digests food. Stay away from most synthetic ingredients making up the beauty product because unless you know where it's derived from your harming your skin and its echo-system. In life everything is a chemical but using natural chemicals is something your skin can recognize like your stomach being able to digest natural food better than processed foods. Get it?
